Overall the RG350 is a fantastic handheld and by far the best retro handheld under $100 on the market at this minute. Admittedly the Bittboy Pocket Go V2 released shortly after this, but in all honest the RG350 beats this in terms of build quality. My experience with retroarch emulation on the rg350 has been pretty awful. It is possible I am missing something, because the speed is so much worse than the regular emulators I have used on my rg350, but I just wondered what your experiences were.

Inheriting the intention of GCW Zero, known as an open-source game console, the newly “ RG350 ” or called “Retro Game 350” is an unprecedented Chinese game console.

英文原教程搜索 retro game corps guide-retroarch-on-rg350-and-rg280-devices Here’s a neat trick from my friend MashTec. If you’d like, you could set up RetroArch to boot up automatically when you power the device oneffectively turning this into a RetroArch handheld device.

Highly acclaimed by overseas retro gamers and lovers of Chinese game consoles, how is it actually? Many people think that. In conclusion, it is a super excellent game console.

RG350 is a game console for intermediate players.
If you hold down the points, it is a Chinese game machine that even beginners can use.

What is “RG350/ Retro Game 350”?

RG350 ”, which has improved the operability and functions of GCW Zero, is a retro game machine that has never been possible before.

All emulator functions have been greatly improved.

It has been announced that it specializes in Super NES and PlayStation emulator functions, but all emulator performance has improved.

In addition, the operability of both the vertical and horizontal screens has been improved, making it convenient for playing vertical scroll shooting games and WonderSwan game titles.

Compared to the Chinese game machines released so far, it is difficult to understand the data transfer and setting method, so it is a game console for intermediate players.

For those who are considering purchasing the RG350 and beginners, we will introduce the actual machine reviews while keeping the points easy to understand.

RG350 specs

Here are the detailed specifications of the RG350.
The main feature is that it is equipped with Dingux, a Linux-based operating system, so it supports many emulators.

Among the Chinese game machines released recently, the specs are particularly high.

It also has a uniquely tuned emulator.
By introducing custom firmware (CFW), you can enjoy the more comfortable gameplay.

What is in the box?

Only the USB Type-C cable and manual are included with the RG350.
Basic operating methods and explanations are written in the manual, but only in English and Chinese.

This manual is only explained briefly, so beginners may be troubled by the settings.
Later we will explain how to set up and use these parts so that they can be used easily.

Easy-to-read and clear glass lens

We adopt a glass lens which is hard to get dirt/scratches.
Compared to plastic lenses, the screen is clear and easy to see, making it ideal for Gameplay.

Also, since the protective film is not affixed, people who are concerned about dirt and scratches should purchase a protective film.

Use the button / Sound Mixer to adjust the volume.

A power button, microSD card slot, volume adjustment button, and reset button are located at the bottom of the main unit.

Not only can you adjust the volume of the speakers and earphones with the volume adjustment buttons, but you can also make detailed settings with the Sound Mixer in the settings.

The sound quality is good for both speakers and earphones
There is no noise from stereo speakers, and the sound quality of the earphones is also good.
In rare cases, noise/disturbance can be seen in the audio, but this is a problem of reproducibility in the emulator.

Brightness can be set finely

Use the power button and volume control buttons to adjust the brightness.
Even if you try to adjust the brightness to your liking, the buttons may not respond, making it difficult to match them at once.

Although there are difficulties in operability, it is convenient because the brightness can be adjusted quite finely.

Compatible with USB Type-C

It supports USB Type-C, which is rare in Chinese game consoles.
Moreover, two USB1 and USB2 are available.

  • USB1: Used to connect an external controller.
  • USB2: Used for charging the main unit and transferring data.

“USB2” is often used, but “USB1” is used when you want to play with two players or connect an external controller.

There is no strap hole

There is no strap hole available for many retro game consoles.

Compared to recently released retro handhelds, it’s easy to hold, so I think there is no problem, but when you carry it, be careful of falling accidents.

Long battery life

RG350 battery replacement is difficult.
It is easy to disassemble the main body and take out the battery, but you need to find a general-purpose battery.

The manufacturer does not recommend disassembling the main body so that there is a seal in one screw hole. Since the battery capacity has increased, the battery life has improved.

Life is about 4 hours and 30 minutes at maximum brightness and volume (medium). The battery capacity is more than twice that of a typical game console, and gameplay on the go is safe.
The result is that the battery lasts 2 hours longer than LDK Game.

Size of RG350

The size of the RG350 is 73 x 145 x 14 mm.
And the weight is 160g, a standard class game console.

Retroarch Opendingux

As usual, I compared the size with the original Game Boy.
Compared to the recently released ultra-lightweight and small game console, it is one size larger, but I am happy to be able to carry a high-spec game console easily.

Clear and easy-to-read display

The RG350 has a large 3.5-inch display.
Although the resolution is 350 x 240, the clear and easy-to-read display has a wide viewing angle and clearly displays the dots of a retro game.

Most of the game machines released in the past year have been purchased, but the quality is high enough that there is no big difference.

Especially those who love retro portable game consoles and those who have game handhelds a while ago are worth experiencing.

How does it compare to other game consoles?

The difference from other game consoles is still interesting.
Compared to popular game machines such as the LDK series and PocketGo series …

In conclusion, the emulator performance is high. For the RG350
Beginner’s Chinese game machine, the LDK series, and the PocketGo series are recommended.
However, RG350 is recommended for those who want a Chinese game machine with high emulator performance.

The corresponding emulator has Dingux, which is a Linux-based OS, so there is no big difference, but the emulator’s reproducibility is excellent.

It is easy to hold as the main body is large, and it has excellent features such as a 3.5-inch display, a battery, and operability.

However, the LDK series and PocketGo series are superior in terms of ease of setting and portability for beginners.

Easy to transfer data

The reason why the RG350 is an “intermediate game console” is that data transfer is cumbersome.
Many Chinese game machines released so far we’re able to transfer data just by connecting to a PC, but the RG350 is not.

If you are worried that you are connected but not recognized, please follow the steps below.

  1. Connect RG350 and PC with the included cable
  2. Download and unzip the driver
  3. Right-click only on RNDIS (INF file) → Select Install
  4. Start ” Settings “-> ” Network ” of RG350
  5. 4 items are displayed. Select “ Allow login without-password ”.
  6. Open ” ” in the browser or folder

The RG350 has two microSD card slots.
With this setting, you can access the microSD card slot built into the main unit and the microSD card slot installed outside.

If you want to know more about data transfer, please refer to the GitHub page.

The device that can play games in earnest

Retroarch On Rg350

The operability of RG350 is “Chinese game machine quality”.
Even so, compared to the Chinese game machines released several years ago, the operability including the feeling of pressing the buttons has improved considerably.

In addition, there are more buttons than the Chinese game machines that have been released so far, so I feel that “a device that can play games in earnest ” has appeared.

As a Chinese game machine, it has a vibration function.
The point that it functions more firmly than I imagined is ◎.

Not all emulators are supported, and only if the emulator setting item has a vibration function.

Personally, if the analog pad height is as low as PS Vita, I think that command input and other operations were comfortable.

Check initial settings and built-in games

Check the initial settings and built-in games of RG350.
You can switch between the various setting tabs by pressing the L / R button on the main menu after startup.
This part of the user interface is a common part of the Chinese game machine with Digix.

The default language is “English”.
An item called Japanese is also available, but it is better not to set it because it is almost untranslated and garbled.

Built-in games include classic CaveStory and Quake.
Recording of game images for which permission has not been obtained could not be confirmed. However, the recording title varies depending on the store and time of sale.

It is possible that illegal game titles are included because we did not check everything in detail. This is especially true for products with gifts sold on Amazon.

Installation of custom firmware is mandatory

The firmware version installed in RG350 is a little older.
Compared to the latest version, there is a high possibility that the setting items of the emulator cannot be selected and minor bugs have not been fixed.

If the standard firmware is sufficient, but
you want to use it as is, the standard firmware is sufficient.
However, if you want to increase the storage capacity of the microSD card built into the main unit, or if you want to maximize performance, we recommend installing custom firmware.

This part is explained in detail as a separate article.
Try it if you already know how to do it. I wanted to read together already practiced! Let’s introduce the custom firmware to the Chinese game machine “RG350”!

Before turning off the power button

Dingux-equipped Chinese game consoles should not turn off the power button.
The manufacturer recommends that you exit by selecting Power off from the settings screen.

If the power button is turned off as it is, not only will the data be erased, but the device may not be able to start.

Types and usage of emulators

The RG350, which is equipped with emulators specialized for Super Nintendo and PlayStation, can play many game titles.

Basically, save the game image in any place on the micro SD card.
The game image file name may be garbled.

Built-in emulator

Many game images are supported, and a wide range of emulators are standard equipment.
However, the type and version of the emulator installed depends on the store you purchased and the time of sale.

It’s not a uniquely tuned emulator, but you can add your favorite emulator. (Install OPK file)

In addition to Super Nintendo and PlayStation, it supports a wide range of game images such as NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Mega Drive, Sega Master System, PC Engine, and Neo Geo.

The game images that are basically supported are the same for all Chinese games, but there is a difference in reproducibility.

The basic usage is to start the emulator and select the game image.
Because it is an emulator machine, not all game titles work perfectly.

If you want to start the emulator and change various setting items, you can call the setting screen by pressing one of the following. L / R button, Select button, Select / Start button, Power button, etc.

If you want to play the PlayStation (PS1) game image, you should first start up the emulator (PCSX4all) and make settings (Select + Start or call with the power button).

Although the setting items differ depending on the emulator installed, you can play comfortably by turning off the HLE emulated BIOS in Core settings and selecting your own BIOS (such as SCPH-1001) in Set BIOS file.

If you want to turn on the vibration function, set Analog Mode in Core settings to “DualShock”.

Enjoy vertical screen game titles

I could play the game titles on the vertical screen with my previous Chinese game consoles, but I wasn’t satisfied with the lack of specs or the delicate button layout.

With the RG350, the installed specs have been improved, and the buttons are easy to operate, so it has become a playable environment. It is good for playing vertical scroll shooting games and WonderSwan game titles.

“RG350” which evolved GCW Zero

Retroarch On The Rg350

Dingux-equipped Chinese game machine “ RG350 ” is equipped with a 3.5-inch large display, GCW Zero specs, operability, and a uniquely tuned emulator function.

Although it is not a beginner’s Chinese game machine, the
RG350 is a game console for intermediate players.
However, it can be said that it is an easy-to-use Chinese game machine once you clear some settings.

In order to maximize the original potential of RG350, the introduction of custom firmware (CFW) is indispensable, but the reproducibility of Super Nintendo and PlayStation is high according to the previous reputation.

Did the Chinese game consoles come here too?
Although it is not recommended for beginners who can experience the RG350, the RG350 is a Chinese game machine that can be fully played by intermediate players who can solve themselves.

Although there are parts that are not satisfactory in performance depending on the specific emulator, there is an advantage in that it can be handled loosely without using an important actual machine and can be played easily.
