Kwanzaa is a cultural, non-religious holiday with an inherent spiritual quality that is connected to the common ground found in many African traditions. It encourages a self-conscious cultural celebratory choice to seek and honor positive values, to ingather and celebrate each other and all that is good.
Is Kwanzaa for all people? Kwanzaa is a celebration of culture and diversity created by and for African Americans. However, Kwanzaa holds a universal message of diversity and goodwill. Kwanzaa encourages depth of self and one’s values, and in that way holds promise for many.
Join Dr. Cindy Acker and Rev. Elisabeth Middelberg as they discuss together - Kwanzaa: Is it for all people? In keeping with the vision of connectedness held during Kwanzaa, the music will be sung by the community. We enjoy clapping and moving to the beat of gospel and spirituals, led by Cindy Acker and Jason Myers.
Presenters:
Cindy Acker is the choir director at Unity in Marin. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and a MA in Culture and Spirituality. Rev. Elisabeth Middelberg is former pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of the Redwood Empire in Guerneville. Cindy and Elisabeth have given team sermons in Guerneville and San Jose.
